I recently submitted art for an online art contest...and while I did not win...it forced me to produce art that was not "perfect" in my eyes, by a deadline. It is good to know that I can work under pressure and produce something I am proud of, even if it is not what I consider my BEST work. My recommendation to all artist, enter contests, set deadlines, create!!! It will never be "perfect". Keep striving to make each piece better than the last. Explore new mediums and above all, HAVE FUN!!!
For those who think Art is quick, easy or mindless for an artist to make, it is not. Do not be fooled by the time-lapse artist videos that make creating art look effortless. All of us, regardless of talent are doing more in the prep before, during, and after the time lapse than you can imagine or see. A 4 min time-lapse video, in real time, often, is more than a 4 hour journey. These recording do not include the research, sketches, color work, prep or clean up, photography, color matching, printing, lighting set up, film set up, or digital and video editing, which are all part of the job.
Please think about this next time you look at some original or digital art or think of hiring an artist to create art for you. This is our job and we put a great deal of time and effort into everything we do.
Here are links to the CLEAN UP, PREP and final PAINTING of a recently commissioned piece, "SEADUCED". I hope you enjoy the videos.
